City Council Open Forum, June 21

June 21, 2016 @ 5:30 pm - 6:00 pm

Please come out for a half hour on Tuesday May 21, 2016 to remind the City Council that we want a ban on coal. New faces and new voices at this week’s Open Forum will go a long way to helping the council understand how broadly Oakland wants a ban on coal. You only have to speak for one minute, and it’s at the beginning of the agenda: you can arrive at 5:30 and leave by 6:00.

Sign up for Open Forum in advance at
http://www2.oaklandnet.com/Government/o/CityClerk/s/SpeakerCard/SpeakerCard/OAK032373

For Item, enter “Open Forum” (or either word if it doesn’t accept both). Bring the confirmation number with you to the meeting.

You may already have your own “elevator speech” about coal based on your own experience. Please consider that it’s important to keep making the point that there is no way to mitigate the impact of coal dust on the West Oakland community or the impact of burning coal anywhere on our climate crisis everywhere. We need a ban, not regulations. You can also advocate the proposed inclusion of crude oil, fuel oils and gasoline in the ordinance — but please tell the council that these additional inclusions must not delay a coal ordinance!
