SUMMARY:NCIO Meeting
DESCRIPTION:There will be a general meeting of No Coal in Oakland on Thursday\, November 9\, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. at the West Oakland Environmental Indicators Project (WOEIP). \nWOEIP is at 349 Mandela Parkway\, around the corner from the West Oakland BART station\, 1/2 block south of Fifth St\, behind the chain link fence and through the parking lot\, on the west side of the street. \nOn December 7\, Phil Tagami filed suit against the City of Oakland seeking to overturn the City of Oakland’s ban on storage and handling of coal at the new shipping terminal to be built on public land near the foot of the Bay Bridge. \nNo Coal in Oakland and our allies have vowed to support the City in its fight to keep coal out of Oakland. Our open letter calling on Tagami to drop his lawsuit was published in late October in the East Bay Express and the Oakland Post. 66 organizations and 1\,800 individuals had already signed on at press-time\, and we’re continuing to collect new signatures. \nWe meet regularly to plan actions that will strengthen Oakland’s resistance to coal.  Only through continued mobilization and a strong alliance with our neighbors in the labor\, faith\, environmental\, social justice\, climate justice\, racial justice\, public health\, and business communities can we ensure defeat of the plan to build the coal terminal. \nCome learn about the lawsuit and the status of different facets of our ongoing campaign.

SUMMARY:Bay Area Day of Dedication: Climate Legacy Time Capsule
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, November 18\, No Coal in Oakland will participate in dedicating a Climate Legacy Time Capsule at an event organized by Sunrise Movement and its local chapter\, Sunrise Movement Bay Area. \nHere is their call: \nRecord heatwaves\, deadly wildfires\, catastrophic hurricanes\, and countless un-natural disasters here in California and around the world remind us that the time for bold action has come. As the annual UN Climate Talks draw to a close in Bonn\, Germany\, the Bay Area will come together to call on Governor Brown and California legislators to do more to support the fight for climate justice. \nAcross the country\, people will gather on November 18th to dedicate Climate Legacy Time Capsules that represent what we are collectively fighting to protect in the face of climate chaos. \nHere in the Bay Area\, the local chapter of Sunrise Movement will dedicate the “Climate Legacy Time Capsule” to not only collectively bring our community together and create a brighter #climatelegacy\, but also to call on Governor Brown for his support to fight for climate justice. \nThe event will be interactive\, inspiring\, and family-friendly. Together we will face the threat that climate change and pollution pose to our homes\, health\, and futures\, while ending up on the side of hope. \nYOU ARE INVITED TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE TIME CAPSULE: \nPlease Bring… \n\nYourself! \nAn object (small enough to fit in your palm) representing “what you love and are fighting to protec in the face of climate change” and/or pollution and/or a letter to the future.\nA letter to the future\n\nArt supplies and mini-time capsules will be provided at the event.\n \nFor more info RSVP on Action Network: climatetimecapsule.org/resist

SUMMARY:#DeCOALonize Oakland Boycott Tagami's Rotunda Building
DESCRIPTION:Please join NCIO in supporting this Climate Workers event at Phil Tagami’s Rotunda Building in downtown Oakland: \n  \nLast year\, Oakland developer Phil Tagami tried to build a coal transport terminal in our town. But workers\, youth\, and community members came together to win an historic ban on coal. Now Tagami is suing in Federal Court to try to force the City of Oakland to accept his dirty coal terminal. We’re fighting back. \nLast month\, two hundred of us went to Phil Tagami’s house in the hills. This month\, we go to Tagami’s Rotunda Building in downtown to launch a boycott of his swanky event space. Every dollar spent at the Rotunda Building is a dollar that Phil Tagami can use to try to force toxic coal dust on working class black and brown communities in Oakland. \nJoin us Tuesday\, November 21st from 11:45AM to 1PM at the Oakland Rotunda Building to put Tagami on notice that any events booked from this date forward until the day Tagami drops his lawsuit should expect picket lines. \nAfter a raucous practice picket\, we will enjoy a community meal prepared by the youth of Abundant Beginnings — a reminder that we can hold celebrations in community\, not just in the decadent digs of developers. Please note: this is not a “Thanksgiving” meal. We reject the genocidal roots of Thanksgiving and stand with indigenous peoples fighting for land\, water\, air\, and sovereignty. \nJoin us for an art party to support the action on Saturday\, Nov. 18th from 2-4PM. Location TBA. \nFor more information\, contact Climate Workers at 510-846-0766 or at brooke@climateworkers.org. \n#DeCOALonizeOakland #BoycottTheRotunda #DroptheLawsuit #TrynaBreathe #Youth4CleanAir #Workers4CleanAir
