SUMMARY:Hearing: OBOT motion to hold City of Oakland in contempt of court
DESCRIPTION:Phil Tagami – with his hedge fund backer Jon Brooks standing right behind him – has filed a motion to hold the City of Oakland in contempt for failing to immediately produce documents and permitting necessary to restart the coal terminal project following January’s ruling by Judge Noël Wise. The City’s position is that the January 23\, 2024 judgment is stayed while the case is being appealed\, meaning that the judgment is not yet in effect\, and will not be unless and until the appeals court rules against the City. \nA public hearing on the contempt motion filed by OBOT – for which over 400 pages of briefs\, declarations\, and proposed court orders have been filed since late May – is scheduled for July 16\, 2024 at 1:30 pm\, in Department 21 at the Rene C. Davidson Courthouse\, before Judge Wise. The courthouse is at 1225 Fallon St. in Oakland (cross street is Oak St.; closest BART station is Lake Merritt).

SUMMARY:West Oakland Community Meeting
DESCRIPTION:This community meeting will invite West Oakland residents to mobilize together to keep a dangerous pollutant out of their neighborhood. SUMMARY:Keep Coal Out of the East Bay: Community Meeting

Come learn how you can fight coal at this community meeting. \nWe’ll catch you up on our decade-long campaign opposing a proposed coal terminal in West Oakland. We’ll share updates on the campaign\, and brainstorm ways to take action in small groups. \nThe coal terminal would bring mile-long coal trains along the East Bay shoreline\, from Martinez to Oakland\, sending toxic coal dust through our communities. This coal terminal is everyone’s problem–and it’ll take all of us to stop it. \nJoin us on Thursday\, June 25\, 2026\, 7-8:30 PM\, at La Peña Cultural Center\, 3105 Shattuck Ave\, Berkeley \nYou can RSVP here.

SUMMARY:No Coal in the East Bay: Letter to the Editor writing workshop (online)
DESCRIPTION:Join East Bay DSA online to fight against toxic coal pollution in Oakland! \nLetters to the editor are a powerful tool to shape public opinion and catch the attention of powerful decision-makers like legislators\, investors\, and regulators. At this workshop\, offered by the Climate Action Committee of East Bay Democratic Socialists of America (DSA)\, you’ll learn why letters to the editor matter\, and how to write an effective one. We’ll do a mini writing workshop where you can start and submit your own letter to the editor. \nThis is a great way to get plugged into ongoing organizing with No Coal in the East Bay. Our goal is to create a strong\, coordinated group of local advocates who can get our narrative out there: the people of the East Bay say no to toxic coal pollution! \nRSVP on East Bay DSA’s event page to learn how to join this online workshop.
