Albany City Council Meeting re: No Coal Resolution
Albany is posed to join Richmond, Emeryville and Berkeley in formally opposing the threat of a proposed West Oakland coal terminal, and the transport via open rail cars of some ten million tons of dirty, dusty, toxic coal along the East Bay waterfront.
On Monday, October 19, 2026, the Albany City Council is expected to vote on a resolution opposing the transport, handling, and storage of coal and petcoke through Albany and the San Francisco Bay Region. The resolution formally opposes local (to Albany) coal transit, and urges the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to enforce strict air regulations and require a full, updated Environmental Impact Report (EIR) under CEQA before issuing any permits.
Please join us at the Albany City Council meeting to let our councilmembers know that Albany is adamantly opposed to a coal terminal that will send toxic, dust-spewing trains through our community!
